Prepare your entry carefully! This way you will arrive in your new homeland without stress and in a positive frame of mind. The preparations are different depending on the land of origin:
EU or EEA citizens:
You can enter into Austria without a visa; you can live and work here permanently. All you need to do is apply for a registration certificate within the first four months. More here: "Residence Permits and Work Permits".
Third-country nationals:
If you are staying less than six months in Styria, a visa is sufficient (depending on the length of your stay, either visa C or visa D).
If you would like to stay longer than six months, you will need a residence permit. In general, people from certain countries are permitted to enter into Austria for 90 days without a visa. They are able to apply for a residence permit from within Austria. However, this is not true for people who require a visa: They will need to apply for the residence permit in their home country!
